Skaginn 3X and HB Grandi have finalized an arrangement where Skaginn 3X takes over all responsibility for the fish processing deck of a newbuild fish processing vessel. The name of the vessel has not been revealed but according to our sources it is codenamed “RE1”. The contract marks the fourth consecutive total delivery of innovative processing decks from Skaginn 3X to HB Grandi. The other three being the three sister fresh fish vessels Engey, Akurey and Videy who have been admired in the industry for their ingenuity, level of automation and high-quality fish brought to land.
The processing deck will include a great flexibility of working easily with several types of species, diverse ways of processing as well as packing options. “A waterjet cutter enables the possibility of new end products previously not feasible to do onboard vessels. It is very important that the design of the next steps in processing deck including the packing line, the design of the freezers, box handling and palletizing also supports the new and expanded possibilities” says Jon Birgir Gunnarsson, Head of Marketing and Sales at Skaginn 3X.
The Spanish shipyard Astilleros Armon Gijon, S.A. will act as a total supplier of the vessel, and as such, deliver the processing deck from Skaginn 3X as a part of the overall delivery. Skaginn 3X will act as the main supplier and system integrator of the processing deck with some components delivered by key suppliers such as Velfag, Marel and Afak.
Ingolfur Arnason, Managing Director of Skaginn 3X, says that the agreement and the unique design of the processing deck are the fruit of a strong cooperation between the Skaginn 3X team and the team at HB Grandi.
